Falling for Stradivari, Documentary Feature Film

An unmissable, riveting documentary that follows superstar violinist Janine Jansen as she embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to record a new album on ten of the greatest ever “Strads”.

Directed by PRIX ITALIA winning documentary maker Gerry Fox, and accompanied in her quest by legendary Sir Antonio Pappano, the documentary will follow Janine fly- on-the wall from research in Stradivarius’ home town of Cremona, where she will meet world leading luthiers, the Stradivarius Museum director and play in their auditorium on the Museum’s three priceless Stradivarius, to a hectic ten day period in London. She will become acquainted with each of the violins, select works that fit them best, learn about their histories and particular foibles and rehearse and record this astonishing album. It will be nerve-wracking, intense, and hugely exciting. Finally, at Christmas, we will follow Janine home to the chamber music festival she has established in Utrecht, where accompanied by Pappano, she will play the pieces for a public audience.

This is the first time ever that so many of the greatest Strads have been gathered together in one place, and the camera will accompany Janine at every step.

Janine Jansen has been recognized by Classical Music magazine as one of the 25 greatest violinists of all time: “Dutch violinist Janine Jansen seems to have been at the forefront of the violin world forever.” A Radio 3 New Generation Artist from 2002-2004, she appeared as a soloist with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and is a regular star of the Proms and with orchestras (including the LPO and LSO) at the Barbican and Festival Hall. She won the distinguished Royal Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist Award in Britain in 2009, confirming the high regard in which British audiences and critics hold her.
