Documentary

An in-depth portrait of dance superstar Natalia Osipova, directed by Gerry Fox, produced by Justine Waddell, Alexandrina Markvo and Gerry Fox in association with Sky Arts.

The film

Force of Nature Natalia follows a season in the life of dance superstar Natalia Osipova. With unique access to Natalia’s personal archive, we see her preparations for a fifth season as a principal of the Royal Ballet and her tireless commitment to championing contemporary dance with some of the world’s greatest choreographers.

We watch the rehearsal process of a new ballet Mother by Arthur Pita, a new commission with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and watch Natalia in rehearsal for the Royal Ballet’s legendary production of La Bayadere.

Natalia opens up about her life and history, her childhood in Russia, her time with American Ballet Theatre and her journey to the Opera House. Up close and personal with the leading ballerina of our generation, we see the great range of her talent in both contemporary and classical roles as she pushes herself beyond the comfort of her early and astounding successes as Giselle and Odette/ Odile in Swan Lake.

This riveting and beautiful dance film is directed by BAFTA and Grierson award winning filmmaker Gerry Fox.
